Reiki Training in Barcelona

I give my Reiki training in Barcelona face to face, in my space in Eixample, and I keep the groups small so that I can give each student my full attention. Courses can be taught in English, Spanish or Turkish.

Barcelona is where Reiki first came into my life. More than twenty years ago, in this city, I received my first attunement from Reiki Master Virginia Gomar, and the years I spent learning at her side shaped everything I teach today. The certificate you receive at the end of the training is approved by the Spanish Reiki Alliance, and my courses follow the lineage I was trained in. Teaching Reiki here is my way of returning what this city gave me. My own story is on my About page.

Before you read about the training, you may want to understand what Reiki is; I explain it on my What is Reiki page.

Certified Usui Tibetan Reiki Courses in Small Groups

If you are beginning your Reiki journey, I recommend starting with Usui Tibetan Reiki. It is not a beginners’ course but a complete system, one that carries you from the first level all the way to Reiki Master. I recommend it because it is a stronger Reiki. It is especially suited to the stage of consciousness we are living through now: strong enough to open real change, yet gentle in the way it works with the person. Further down this page I describe the system, its levels and the other Reiki systems that follow it. The connection with the universal life energy begins at the first course, and so does the work with it: on yourself to begin with, later on other people.

Each Reiki level I currently teach in Barcelona takes place in person and takes a day. The day is built around direct experience as much as theory: you practise with one another, learn the hand positions, ask questions as they arise and experience the energy for yourself. The attunement is an essential part of this learning. In my current Barcelona courses, I give these attunements face to face within the same small-group setting, with time around them for practice, questions and integration.

I deliberately keep the groups small. It gives me time to watch how each student is working, correct hand positions when needed and make room for the questions that only appear once the energy is actually being used.

What each level of the course includes:

• The Reiki attunement, given by me personally and never delegated
• Detailed course notes that remain with you after the training
• Hands-on practice in pairs throughout the day
• The hand positions for self-Reiki and for treating others
• Reiki’s history, and the line of teachers that links you to Mikao Usui
• Your Reiki certificate, approved by the Spanish Reiki Alliance
• An open invitation to the regular monthly Reiki exchanges I hold for my students
• My ongoing support after the course when questions appear in your own practice

The last two are not extras. You never finish Reiki; you only begin it, and then go on beginning it every day. The first months are when you most need a teacher you can write to, and other hands to practise with.

What Is Usui Tibetan Reiki?

If you have already been looking at Reiki courses in Barcelona, you will probably have come across several names: Usui Reiki, traditional Japanese Reiki, Usui Ryoho, Shoden and Okuden, among others. Usui Tibetan Reiki belongs to the Usui lineage and carries it forward with later Tibetan teachings. It is one of the systems through which Reiki is taught around the world today.

At the heart of this system is a simple idea that has stayed with me for years: we do not have to learn everything through suffering; we can also learn through awareness. Its energy is powerful without needing to be harsh. During the course, the attunement ceremonies connect the student with universal life energy, and the different levels introduce the symbols and practices gradually, as the energy channel becomes able to hold more.

The foundations of the system rest on the Reiki teachings and symbols received by Mikao Usui, the Japanese Buddhist monk at the root of the modern Reiki lineage. Later work with Tibetan teachings added further symbols and practices. For me, the value of Usui Tibetan Reiki is precisely this meeting point: an old lineage that still feels alive enough to meet the consciousness of the present day. It is known as one of the healing techniques least likely to bring on a healing crisis, and for the way consciousness works today it is one of the best systems to begin with.

How Do You Learn Reiki?

You can read the history of Reiki, memorise the hand positions and watch demonstrations, but the attunement is not simply information to be learned. It is an energetic activation given by a Reiki teacher, through which the student’s energy channel is attuned to Reiki. Traditionally, Reiki attunements have been passed directly from teacher to student. In my current Barcelona courses, I give them in person as part of the practical training day.

Through the symbols of sacred geometry, the Reiki teacher connects you to the endless source of Reiki’s life energy, and on the course you are also taught how to reach that source by yourself.

The world is going through a great change, and Reiki was sent to humanity as a gift for exactly this time: to help us let the collapsing system fall away behind us. With Reiki we recognise the energies of Supreme Love and Light among all the others, and we merge with them more easily. It wraps us in a safe net. We come back, again and again, to what is True in us.

If you want to know what happens during the ceremony itself, you can jump to How is a Reiki attunement given? further down the page.

The 21-Day Healing Process After a Reiki Attunement (Initiation)

The attunement does not end when the ceremony ends. In the days that follow, a 21-day period of healing, clearing and transformation begins. The energy received in the attunement starts working through the physical, emotional and mental layers, and many students notice that the course continues unfolding inside them long after they have left the room.

In the tradition in which I was taught, the kundalini energy is understood to begin awakening at its own rhythm, never faster than we can bear, during this 21-day healing process. Our life splits in two here: before this process, and after it. It is a new beginning of great power, and one of the biggest changes a life can hold. The weights that do not belong to our essence, the ones laid on us all through our lives and the ones we picked up ourselves out of fear, begin to loosen and fall away.

We live this intense healing and cleansing for anywhere between twenty-one days and three months after each Reiki level. Each time it takes us a great step further towards knowing ourselves, and towards accepting and loving ourselves as we are.

The ego loosens its hold, and we learn to give it less room. We start to see ourselves and the world from a more authentic and purer place. Other people’s moods and opinions lose their grip on us. And instead of waiting for someone’s approval, we recognise who we are and what our unique purpose is, and we gather the strength to live it.

Gifts we had pushed down, and gifts we never knew we had, are set free this way. Intuition and creativity grow. We learn to listen to the voice of our own heart and to the healing power of the endless love within us, and to draw abundance and prosperity into our lives. During these three weeks I ask my students to give themselves Reiki every day. Nothing on the course is simpler, and nothing matters more.

The Levels of Usui Tibetan Reiki

On my Reiki course in Barcelona you move through the four levels of Usui Tibetan Reiki in order. With each level the energy channel opens wider and your practice can go deeper. The first two levels lay the foundation; at the advanced levels you learn to channel the energy with far more strength. Because Level 1 and Level 2 complete each other, they are given together, on two consecutive days.

In Barcelona you will often see these levels listed under their Japanese names, Shoden, Okuden and Shinpiden; I have put them in brackets so that you can compare courses easily.

Reiki Level 1 Attunement (Shoden)

The channel for giving Reiki to the physical body opens here.

From this day on you can treat yourself, and give Reiki to your family, your friends and your animals.

Reiki Level 2 Attunement (Okuden)

Reiki now reaches the deeper layers, the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, and the channel to them opens.

At this level you receive the Reiki symbols and learn how to send Reiki at a distance, without the person needing to be physically beside you.

Reiki Level 3 and Reiki Master Attunements (Shinpiden)

At the advanced levels the energy channel expands further, allowing a stronger flow of Reiki for yourself and for the people you work with. Before moving into these levels, you need to have completed Levels 1 and 2 and practised Reiki on yourself for at least three months.

Even at Reiki Master level, the first purpose of the energy you receive is still your own healing, growth and spiritual development.

Who Can Learn Reiki? Can Everyone Learn Reiki?

Reiki was sent by God, by the Universe, to all its children without distinction. You do not need a particular personality, previous experience, spiritual background or level of knowledge to be attuned to it. Anyone can learn Reiki. How far you go with the practice depends, as it does with any path, on the time and attention you are willing to give it.

Most people who join my Reiki courses in Barcelona are one of these:
• Someone who has received Reiki and wants to understand from the inside what they experienced
• Someone with no experience of energy work, only a curiosity that will not go away
• A yoga teacher, therapist or bodyworker who wants to bring Reiki into their own work
• Someone moving through a personal transition who wants a practice they can use on themselves every day
• Someone who hopes one day to work with Reiki professionally and wants to begin with a solid practical foundation
• Someone who has moved to Barcelona from another country, or visiting for a period of time and wants to learn Reiki in English, Spanish or Turkish

With each level you receive a detailed course manual, and at the end of the training a Reiki certificate approved by the Spanish Reiki Alliance (La Alianza Española de Reiki), recognised within Reiki communities in Spain and internationally.

After the training, I hold monthly Reiki exchanges for my students. They are open only to people who have trained with me, and they give us a place to keep practising, to give and receive Reiki, and to let experience deepen what was first learned on the course.

If you are curious how other students experienced the course, their words are on the Reiki reviews page.

Sound Healing with Quartz Crystal Bowls in Reiki Training

Quartz crystal bowls have a place in the Reiki courses I teach. I use them at particular moments of the day to help the group settle, become more receptive and notice the energy with greater clarity. Their vibration can quieten mental noise, balance the energy field and make meditation easier, creating a more spacious ground for the Reiki work itself.

If you would like to experience how the Reiki energy works before you learn it, you can book an individual Reiki and sound healing session: the details are on my Reiki session in Barcelona page, and the bowls themselves have their own page, Sound Healing Barcelona.

The Reiki Training Journey and Advanced Reiki Systems: Karuna Reiki and Sekhem Reiki

Usui Tibetan Reiki is the foundation of the training journey. Its four levels take you from the first attunement through to Reiki Master, gradually deepening both the practice and the strength of the energy channel.

After completing the Usui Tibetan Reiki Master level, some practitioners feel called to continue into other Reiki systems. You can continue with me through Karuna Reiki and Sekhem Seichim (Egyptian) Reiki. They carry different frequencies, symbols and ways of working with the Reiki energy, and I teach them as advanced systems for students who are ready to go further.

You will find the next course dates for Barcelona on the Barcelona training calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does Reiki training take?

Each level takes one day, face to face. Level 1 and Level 2 belong to each other energetically, so I give them together as a two-day programme. On the first day the channel to the physical body opens; on the second, the work goes deeper, into the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. That order matters: when the twenty-one days of deep cleansing begin after the attunements, you already hold the Level 2 symbols and can support yourself with self-Reiki. Every level includes theory, practice, a detailed course manual and the attunement, and afterwards you are welcome at the monthly Reiki exchanges I hold only for my own students. If you want to understand the energy itself first, read what Reiki is and how it works.

Level 1 is the foundation: it opens the channel for the physical body and teaches you to give Reiki to yourself and to other people through the basic hand positions. Level 2 goes further into the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. At this level you receive the sacred geometry symbols and learn how to send Reiki at a distance. I teach the two levels back to back because the second completes what the first begins.

Yes. The certificate you receive is approved by the Spanish Reiki Alliance (La Alianza Española de Reiki) and recognised by Reiki communities around the world. For a course in Barcelona this has a particular meaning: your Reiki certification comes through an association based here in Spain, in the lineage I trained in myself. To ask about dates or reserve your place, you can reach me through the contact page.

Reiki is not a regulated profession in Spain, and there is no official qualification for it. Your certificate is recognised within the Reiki community, in Spain and abroad, but it is not an official professional qualification. Many practitioners here work independently or offer sessions in wellbeing centres. From my own experience, what matters most if you want to work with other people is solid training and steady practice. On my courses you practise on other people from the first day, and the monthly Reiki exchanges give you a place to keep doing so.

Anyone can learn and practise Reiki. Some people come because they want a daily practice for themselves, others because they want to give Reiki to family and friends, and some because they may later work with clients. If you would first like to experience Reiki from the receiving side, the Reiki session Barcelona page explains what an individual session is like.

Yes. Once you have taken Level 1 you can give Reiki to yourself, and this is the practice I care about most. In the twenty-one days of cleansing after the course I ask my students to do it every day, because that is how a deep bond with Reiki is built. You start with a few simple hand positions, at least once a day, for anywhere between five and forty-five minutes.

No. Reiki Level 1 is open to complete beginners. You do not need to have practised Reiki, meditation or any other form of energy work before. The course is experiential, and you learn by receiving the attunement, practising and noticing the energy for yourself.

A Reiki attunement, sometimes called an initiation, is the energy activation given by the Reiki teacher during the course. You normally sit on a stool or chair while I work around you, using light touches and placing the Reiki sacred geometry symbols into the energy centres. The energy channel is attuned to Reiki and, from that point onward, you can begin using Reiki for yourself and for others. The ceremony usually lasts around ten to fifteen minutes, and I give every attunement myself.

Each person lives it differently. Some people feel heat in their palms or through the whole body, others a tingling or a soft current, others a deep peace. Some drift into a state close to meditation. And some feel nothing at all in the body, which is just as normal as everything else. What counts in an attunement is not a particular feeling but the attuning of your energy channel to Reiki, and that happens whatever you feel. Many students tell me that afterwards they feel more relaxed, more balanced, and as if their energy has opened up.

Yes. From the moment of the attunement the energy is yours to use; the hand positions and techniques you learn on the course let you give Reiki to yourself and to others. It grows stronger the more you use it, so I ask for regular practice.

Yes, from Level 2 onwards. Once you receive the symbols of sacred geometry, distance and time stop being obstacles: you can send Reiki to someone you love, to a person who needs healing, or even to something that happened to you years ago. Emotional and spiritual work responds to distance Reiki just as it does to a session in the room; for a physical complaint I recommend coming in person. The distance Reiki page explains it all.

No. Reiki is neither a religion nor a denomination. It is a universal life energy, sent by God, by the Universe, to all its children without distinction, and it has never been in conflict with any religion or belief. Your religion, your race, your nationality, your gender, your age: none of them stand between you and this healing power, or between you and becoming a Reiki practitioner. And whatever your beliefs, Reiki brings you closer to your own essence.

Yes. My Reiki classes in Barcelona are taught in English, and also in Spanish and Turkish. I lived for many years in both England and Spain, and teaching Reiki in English has long been second nature to me. When the whole group speaks English, the course and the manual are in English; when the group is mixed, we use the language we all share. Barcelona has a large international community and I get this question often, so just tell me your language preference when you write.

Each level has its own fee. Write to me through the contact page and I will send you the current prices, the next Barcelona dates and the ways you can pay. Before you enrol on a course, I like to have a short conversation with you by phone, so you can ask me anything you would like to know.
