Sound Healing in Barcelona

In sound healing, vibration does what hands usually do: it reaches you without touching you, and body and mind slowly sink into deep relaxation. It is one of the oldest ways of healing, and in Barcelona I practise it with quartz crystal bowls. I give private sound healing sessions in my space in Eixample, in the centre of the city, in English, Spanish or Turkish. My group sound healing circles meet there too, on full moons and whenever the seasons turn. Sound is also a regular part of my Reiki sessions in Barcelona.

What Is Sound Healing?

Under the name sound healing you will find many different ways of working with sound and vibration. In Barcelona the term you will probably meet first is sound bath, or baño de sonido in Spanish: you lie on a mat with your eyes closed while singing bowls, gongs and other instruments are played around you. In sound meditation, the sound gives the mind something to rest on, so that attention can gradually turn inward. My own work takes two forms: private one-to-one sound healing sessions and group sound healing circles, and in both of them we set out together to discover, gently, how sound can transform and heal.

Behind every form of sound healing is the same underlying idea: vibration can reach places that touch cannot. Brought into ritual, sound becomes something larger than music: a universal source of healing. Particular frequencies and melodies wake the energy that sits deep in the body, open the places where it has stopped moving and help it find its balance again. Little by little a person is led towards spiritual harmony, and body, mind and soul open to the healing of vibration.

It was here in Barcelona that I first trained in sound healing with quartz crystal bowls. In the years since, I have brought that training together with my own voice, other instruments and Reiki, and the bowls are part of my Reiki training in Barcelona too. The longer story of my path is on my About page.

The instruments and practices I work with include:

  • Quartz Crystal Bowls
  • Mother Earth Drum
  • Tibetan Cymbals
  • Ney (Turkish Reed Flute)
  • Sansula
  • Our Own Voice
  • Mantras
  • Aura Cleansing
  • Meditation
  • Reiki Healing Energy

Whether we work one to one or in a group, there is always room for your own voice, and I encourage everyone to express themselves through it.

The Ney, the Heart and a Sufi Thread in Sound

The ney brings a very different presence into my sound healing work. This simple reed flute has been part of Sufi and Mevlevi music for centuries, carrying a sound that is closely associated with longing, remembrance and the journey back towards one’s source. I experience it as a voice of the heart. Its tone begins with the breath itself, fragile and raw, and for me there is something in that sound that can gently soften the space around the heart and invite it to open.

Barcelona has a particular meaning in this part of my work because this is where I first learned sound healing with quartz crystal bowls. The ney comes from another part of my story, from the musical and spiritual traditions of Turkey, where I was born. Bringing them together here feels like allowing two different parts of my journey to meet: the clear, expansive vibration of the quartz bowls and the intimate breath of the ney. I never use either according to a fixed sequence; I listen to the moment and let the sound unfold from there.

Benefits of Sound Healing and Sound Baths

From the outside, Barcelona looks like an easy city to relax in: the sea is close, the light is generous and people stay outside until late. Living here is often a different story. Working days run long, dinners start late and the streets are rarely quiet, and for anyone who has moved here from abroad there is also the quiet effort of building a life far from family and from your own language. A quartz crystal bowl can sustain a clear note for a surprisingly long time and a restless mind can lean on that note. As its vibration spreads through the body, everyday thoughts slow down of their own accord and the body sinks into deep relaxation. That is why sound is such a natural way in for anyone who finds it hard to quieten the mind or to sit in meditation.

  • A body that relaxes deeply and a mind that settles
  • Relief from stress, and from the kind of tiredness that sleep alone does not fix
  • Greater awareness of your body and of what it is telling you
  • Meditation that comes more easily and goes deeper
  • Space for held emotions and blocked energy to start flowing again
  • A renewed connection with your inner world and with your own essence

In my sessions, sound is more than music to listen to. It is a living field of vibration, and you meet it with your whole self: body, feelings and energy.

What Happens in a Sound Healing Session?

If you are looking for a private sound bath in Barcelona rather than a group class, this is how a one-to-one session with me unfolds. We start by sitting together for a talk about how you are and what you need that day. Then you lie down, settle in comfortably and close your eyes, and I begin to play the quartz crystal bowls. Their vibration spreads through you wave after wave, and the mind starts to fall silent with no effort on your part. Later, whenever the moment asks for it, the bowls are joined by the Mother Earth drum, the Tibetan cymbals, the ney, the sansula and my own voice, and Reiki energy flows through the work as well. There is nothing you need to achieve; your only task is to allow yourself to receive. From start to finish, the session lasts 60 minutes.

Sound Healing Circles

In a circle the journey inward is shared. The instruments and our own voices guide us, and nobody is simply a listener: together we work with sound as something we both create and receive. By staying present, we explore what it means to sing and play with a healing intention.

Inside every circle there is also a ceremony that comes from the teachings of the Indigenous peoples of South America: the circle of the Power of the Word. In it, each person gets in touch with their own wisdom and with the strength of speaking from the heart, and shares both with everyone present.

Being part of a group does not mean being left on your own. During the circle I spend time with each participant individually, and my hope is that everyone leaves deeply relaxed, peaceful and renewed. I guide the Barcelona circles in both Spanish and English, so you can take part comfortably in either language.

In Barcelona we gather on every full moon and on the four days that turn the year: the two solstices, in June and December, and the two equinoxes, in March and September. The summer solstice falls close to one of Barcelona’s most emblematic nights: Sant Joan, celebrated with bonfires and fireworks across the city and along the beaches. My solstice circle marks the same turning of the year in a quieter way, with sound, stillness and a shared intention. For the dates of the next full moon and seasonal circles in Eixample, you are welcome to get in touch.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a sound healing session last?

A private session lasts 60 minutes, and our opening conversation is part of that time. How long we spend on each part of the session depends on what you need that day.

It can support many people going through stress, mental fatigue, sleep difficulties or an emotionally intense period. Others come with no particular difficulty at all, only the wish to meet the deepest spiritual layers of themselves through the power of sound. You need no musical background and no particular belief.

Yes. Many of the people I work with in Barcelona are part of its international community, and English has been a working language for me since my years in England. A private session can be entirely in English, from the first conversation to whatever you want to share at the end. Sessions are also possible in Spanish or Turkish, and the circles are guided in Spanish and English together.

Sound healing is generally a gentle practice, but every person responds differently. Even so, if any of the following applies to you, please talk to your doctor before a session and mention it to me when we talk at the start: a serious mental health condition for which you are receiving treatment, epilepsy, a pacemaker or other heart device, the first three months of pregnancy, or tinnitus and a strong sensitivity to sound.

They are close relatives. In Barcelona, a sound bath, or baño de sonido, usually means a group session in a studio, where you lie down and listen while bowls and gongs are played. Sound healing is the broader name. In my sessions and circles the sound comes together with personal attention, aura cleansing, mantras and Reiki energy, and I work with quartz crystal bowls rather than gongs.

Come in comfortable clothes. A light meal beforehand is better than a heavy one. Afterwards, you can simply hydrate as normal. If you are crossing the city in the summer heat, give yourself a few minutes to cool down and settle before we begin.

It is different for everyone. Most people feel the body relax deeply, notice the vibration spreading through them in waves and find that the mind grows calm. Sometimes emotions come up as well, and that is a natural part of the process.

Yes, and I often bring them together. The bowls help the body let go first; once the body has relaxed, Reiki can go deeper into the space the sound has opened. If you have been searching for a Reiki sound bath in Barcelona, this is what my private sessions offer. To read more about how I work with Reiki itself, visit my Reiki Session Barcelona page.

The Barcelona circles meet in my space in Eixample on full moons and at the solstices and equinoxes. If you have been looking for a full moon ceremony in Barcelona, mine takes the form of a sound journey with quartz crystal bowls and other instruments, the circle of the Power of the Word, additional rituals depending on the energy of the group, and time for each person. I guide the whole circle in both Spanish and English. Send me a message through the contact page and I will tell you when the next one is.

Both my private sessions and my circles take place in my space in Eixample, right in the centre of Barcelona.
